I'll lay off the blender tutorials after they seem better answererd on the net.... until then... blender fluid text is really fun and cool, however getting it to work correctly is a task that's been nagging me and my student at http://computers4kids.net for the last two weeks.... well the first real decent news is that in response to several threads out there you don't need to up the bake resolution to 300 (requiring several gigs of ram) you MAY however need to enter every letter as an individual mesh.... it's a chore, however the results are great...
The leaf in the picture is actually an inspeck 3d pic of a piece of lost styrofoam sculpture made a few weeks ago... am very pleased with the outcome, however there seems to be some artifact in there somewhere....
hope to update this video once the artifacts are gone (and once I figure out how to get the alpha chanel ipo's a little nicer....

quick chemistry video
Well thanks to VMD, Pubchem + Pubchem Edit + Blender 3d + Biocyc.orghere's a test video of a hypothesized cannabigerolic acid synthase (aka the geranyl diphosphate transferase) that converts olivetolic acid (painted in blue + gray) into cannabigerolic acid (painted with red) need to get the gpp in there correctly and for those who must know the protein is 1U0V - I picked it for a couple reasons, however it's sorta silly cause it hasn't been structured. It's for illustration.

getting vrml / wavefront from molecular data into blender 3d . vol 1

So far getting the VRML output from different softwares has been a bit of a chore. We started out using
- Rasmol. It renders the sticks in VRML however it doesn't do the ribbons.... stay tuned for updates this summer - the developers have noted the bug and emailed me back to say they're aimin' to squash it
- Chimera It renders the VRML for anything, however having a time getting the files in to blender
- VMD Halelujah - well it's a different approach altogether... and who'da thunk. Had to use an older version to run it on my osx 3.xx powerpc and... score - rendered to wavefront and... shazaam...

Well least surprising surprise d'jour - PDB2Blend is some wiley kraut's python script for getting the data straight - doesn't do everything VMD does... ball and stick, space fill, and a stick.... still very cool
